Life lessons from High School Musical

Wow, it got to be very cold today. I am not sure if I am quite ready for that. I haven't really even pulled out winter shoes. I really want to keep wearing sandals, but my feet were certainly trying to tell me something today...they were freezing! I got to experience my first birthday party, with friends, as a parent this weekend. My oldest daughter turned 6, and we had a party at the movie theater. You guessed it, she wanted to see High School Musical 3.

As corny as those movies are, they really do send good messages to kids. Follow your heart and your dreams....be yourself and not what everyone wants you to be...good friends should be cherished...work hard....always treat others with respect....being smart is "cool"....are among a few. It is nice to see that Disney still strives to send good messages to our kids, because many cartoons and other "made for kid" shows aren't. You truly can't watch TV after 6:00 if you have small children around. Many of the shows have content that I just don't want my kids to hear yet.

Just my 2 cents for the day :)

Blogging again...

So here I am...starting another blog. I have to admit, since my experience in the GMU cohort, I haven't really spent much time blogging. Where is the time? However, I do think there is a place for this in the education world. I can't help to think how much different the story in Freedom Writer would have been if there were blogs...who knows? I just love how blogging gives every person a voice to be heard if they want to...and what better practice to gain literacy skills than to write. I look forward to learning how to fit this tool into our classrooms.
